DINNER 169: Sunday, June 18, 2006

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! What a fun day today was. My buddy, Chef Doug, asked me (last night!) to participate as his apprentice for an American Culinary Federation “One Man Mystery Basket” culinary competition he attempted today. Apparently, the competition was supposed to provide apprentices, but…

DINNER 175: Saturday, June 24, 2006 — Jean-Robert at Pigall's

DINNER 175: Saturday, June 24, 2006 — Jean-Robert at Pigall's

What a meal this evening — we were certainly “eating strong!” during this culinary tour-de-force. Wendy & I dined at Jean-Robert at Pigall’s, a 4-star French restaurant in downtown Cincinnati.

Jean-Robert at Pigall’s innovative three-course prix fixe menu features a delectable array of appetizers, entrees, and desserts accompanied by an extensive wine list. A five-course degustation menu is also offered and wine pairings, suggested by the sommelier, are available for all menu selections.

As loyal readers of this site already know, I have been volunteering at the restaurant since January of 2005. It is a lot of fun to visit the ‘front of house’ side of the restaurant after becoming so familiar with the ‘back of house’.

DINNER 197: Sunday, July 16, 2006

Wendy & I had an evening free, so we spent the morning running some errands (we had to stop at Wendy’s hospital to take care of Jake, a dog suffering from a spider bite, then to Jungle Jim’s for groceries, then lunch at the Red…

System Strangeness

System Strangeness

We’ve got a couple behind-the-scenes issues occuring with the website — our cache program isn’t working, sometimes the comment form seems to disappear, and there is an elusive bug with my permalinks. I’m working to fix all of these issues, so if you experience any system wonkiness, please bear with us!

UPDATE 1: The cache turns out to be functioning normally after all. A previous version would put TWO lines into the cached file indicating that it was served from the cache and the documentation still indicates this. However, the author has removed the second line, which is what I was looking for to determine if it was working.

UPDATE 2: It appears that the comment form issue is related to the page rendering in Internet Explorer or Firefox. The comment form works fine in Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer. We’re still working on this.

UPDATE 3: Thanks to Yosemite and Moshu from the WordPress Support forum (link above), we isolated the comment form problem to an out-of-date version of the HashCash plugin we’ve been running. Curiously, when I updated HashCash from 2.3 to 3.2, the comment form displayed properly in IE but not in Firefox — the opposite of what was happening before! As a result, I’ve disabled the HashCash plugin.

Still working on those permalinks! I’ve been directed to the documents that I believe will help. I just haven’t had time to work on it yet.

After experiencing the petering-out of the second half of HEAT by Bill Buford, I’ve moved on to HAUNTED by Chuck Palahniuk. It’s got a scary-looking cover with a secret — it glows in the dark! Thematically, the book is about as far away from HEAT as you…
