HAPPY MOUTH — July 2005

HAPPY MOUTH — July 2005

Ted’s pick for this month’s HAPPY MOUTH was CUMIN, a tiny Indian restaurant near Hyde Park. Our loud and boisterous group nearly filled the restaurant, and the sound of our laughter and merry-making certainly increased the volume level. Food overall was pretty good.

HAPPY MOUTH — August 2005

HAPPY MOUTH met this month at one of Cincinnati’s oldest buildings (built in 1848) and longest continiously-operating restaurants (since 1861). Holly picked this month’s selection, the veritable ARNOLD’S. We crowded around the tables in the ‘ladies’ side of the bar (the restaurant has both a…

HAPPY MOUTH — September 2005

Wendy’s pick for this month’s HAPPY MOUTH outing was Vinoklet Winery in Colerain Township on the outskirts of Cincinnati.

This winery cultivates five different grapes which it uses to make 6 different wines. When you arrive at the Winery, you get a tasting of all six wines. You select the wine you want to drink with dinner and then you can grill your own meats and finish your plate with selections from their buffet.

The table is yours for the evening, so you can stroll the vineyard or sit by the firepit and tell tall tales.

This month’s HAPPY MOUTH outing was selected by Drew. A large group of us went to Slim’s Restaurant in Northside for a dinner of ecclectic American dishes… Real comfortable food, to quote their press materials. Angel, Jay, John, Robin, Dave, Holly, Ed, Wendy, and Drew…

CULINARY: My eighth night at Pigalls

CULINARY: My eighth night at Pigalls

On Saturday, November 12, 2005, I worked at Jean-Robert at Pigall’s for my eighth night.

I’d been unable to work there during the summer because of busy schedules so it was a tremendous amount of fun to get back into the kitchen with the crew (some of whom were new since the last time I’d worked) and to put out some wonderful food.

I arrived around 1:00pm and got started with prepping for service. I worked on whatever anyone needed me to do, so I did a wide variety of tasks (including a not-quite-up-to-snuff attempt at brunoising red peppers — I’m slow and not as precise as they expect down there, which is something I intend to work on).

The restaurant has gotten a lot busier since my last time in the kitchen. The first turn was very busy — much more so than the last time I was in. I believe this is because Jean-Robert at Pigall’s recently received a 4-star designation.

I stayed through the first turn and left around 8:00pm.
