This evening, Angel, one of the castmembers of the show I’m directing (DINNER WITH FRIENDS for Falcon Theater), and I met for a dinner of Indian food at AMBAR INDIA in Clifton, very near where we both work and close to our rehearsal space. We enjoyed…

DINNER 23: Monday, January 23, 2006

Tonight, Wendy & I used a couple gift certificates (thanks Bill!) for TGI Friday’s restaurant. Wendy enjoyed her “Baked Potato Soup” and “Double Stacked Quesadillas”, stuffed with chicken, cheeses, onions & peppers. I took part in Friday’s $13 for three courses deal and had pot-stickers…

DINNER 22: Sunday, January 22, 2006

On Sunday evening, we ate with Paul & Julie at a local sushi place — KABUTO. It’s a festive place — when you walk in the door, the first thing you see is a wall full of photographs of people who have celebrated at the restaurant, everything from birthdays to anniversaries. The thing that fascinates me is that many of the birthdays are for children 8-14 years old. I’m not sure how old I was when I first heard of sushi, but I know that I ate sushi for the first time in Baltimore Maryland with Rick & Rachel, two long-lost friends, in 1990 or 1991. At the time, it felt cutting edge and new. At some point, sushi made it all the way to Cincinnati and became common enough that even little kids eat it.

At KABUTO, we enjoyed edimame, miso soup, green salads with ginger dressing, and loads of sushi.

DINNER 20: Friday, January 20, 2006

Sometimes, I wish I wasn’t journaling my food for this year. As a ‘foodie’ and trained culinarian, I feel that there is the expectation that each meal (well, dinner at least) that Wendy & I eat should be dramatic. Glamorous, even. Here’s the harsh reality,…

DINNER 19: Thursday, January 19, 2006

Wendy is feeling better from her recent trip to Dr. Toothy, so we finished up the leftovers (Roasted Beef Tenderloin with Caramelized Shallots & Red Wine and Parslied Potato Puree) from the other night. It was almost as good as the first time!

DINNER 18: Wednesday, January 18, 2006

DINNER 18: Wednesday, January 18, 2006

Wendy wasn’t feeling great after a visit to her dentist (Blue calls his “Dr. Toothy“), so our original plan of eating the left-over beef tenderloin was scrapped in favor of hot, comforting soups and noodle dishes from Lulu’s, a local noodle shop. Wendy liked her…
