DINNER 22: Sunday, January 22, 2006
On Sunday evening, we ate with Paul & Julie at a local sushi place — KABUTO. It’s a festive place — when you walk in the door, the first thing you see is a wall full of photographs of people who have celebrated at the restaurant, everything from birthdays to anniversaries. The thing that fascinates me is that many of the birthdays are for children 8-14 years old. I’m not sure how old I was when I first heard of sushi, but I know that I ate sushi for the first time in Baltimore Maryland with Rick & Rachel, two long-lost friends, in 1990 or 1991. At the time, it felt cutting edge and new. At some point, sushi made it all the way to Cincinnati and became common enough that even little kids eat it.
At KABUTO, we enjoyed edimame, miso soup, green salads with ginger dressing, and loads of sushi.
