Chef Kinsella was the force that shaped me from a newbie into a culinarian. His stern-but-mean-but-compassionate-and-angry leadership style toughened us up. Chef […]

On Sunday, February 6, 2011, right around 10:33pm, our dear sweet old Bean dog took her last breath in this world. Bean had battled spleen cancer in August 2010 and beat it (with spleen removal and chemotherapy). However, not long after that, Wendy found a mass on Bean’s liver which […]

Wendy brought home Akhenaten’s blood-work from the lab today. The summary: It’s bad. Really bad. A few random quotes that resonated… “Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious.” – Brendan Gill “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” – Peter Drucker “Idealism is what precedes experience; cynicism is what follows” – David T. […]
Oh, it’s good to be home. I do love traveling, but I love coming home, too. The GMAC Professional Development Program (go PDP class of 2009!) in Washington DC (well, Georgetown) was outstanding. The presentations, information, and exchange of knowledge was truly inspiring (and, at times, a little daunting since […]

I am in Washington DC (well, Georgetown) for most of the week at a training conference for my job. The conference is very good so far, very good indeed, and is providing lots of actionable ideas and opportunities for collaborative thinking about how we do what we do. It’s a […]
On the morning of Thursday, July 16, 2009, our dear little cat Ringo, a soft and gentle soul, finished his fight with a rare form of bone cancer. He was 12 years old. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his furry family and his people. He finished up under […]

Thanks to my buddy Doug who worked tirelessly to get my site migrated and nestled into his server stack, my site is back up and running properly. Here’s what happened… I upgraded my Fedora Core 9 site to Fedora Core 10. This went smoothly. I upgraded my Fedora Core 10 […]
This evening, I updated the server software from Fedora Core 9 to Fedora Core 10. The update went very well, with only one minor annoyance (mod_proxy) that was easily fixed. Total system downtime was about 50 minutes. I am currently downloading all the updated software to bring my Fedora Core […]
Over on Facebook, my buddy Ron (and, later, Dave (and later still, Doug)) asked us to list 15 books in 15 minutes — to consist of a list of 15 books I’ve read that will always stick with me. Here’s my list. It’s generously proportioned (way more than 15!) and […]

At the end of a long holiday weekend, I cooked at home for Wendy & myself. On the way home from an enjoyable Civil War Walk through Spring Grove Cemetery (we arrived late and did not hear Abraham Lincoln speak), we stopped and picked up some food to prepare at home. […]
I hope everyone has an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend. This unofficial start of summer is something I look forward to every year, and am pleased when it sneaks up on me unexpectedly, like it did this year. As a result, my Monday is relatively free & open. At this moment, […]
Be aware that there is a news conference on Friday morning at 10:30am, in time for the announcements to hit the noon news in Cincinnati. The speculation is fun to read — just like popular fiction. Cannot wait for the news at noon on Friday. Will probably watch it on […]
Way to go, Wendy! Thanks to training and support from our friends (and Wendy’s running buddies) Donnie and Ron (and Jeff!), Wendy was able to finish the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon — all 26.2 miles of the darned thing — on Sunday, May 3, 2009. It was Wendy’s first marathon. […]

When the agenda for our staff meeting included the entry, “Happy April Fool’s Day!” as item one, an idea occured to me.
