Introducing Toast & Truffle!

Wendy & I have added two new inmates to the asylum. Meet Toast and Truffle! They’re litter-mates and were born May 28, 2023 or thereabouts. Toast is the Siamiese-looking male, and Truffle is the female void-cat. My friend Abby helped come up with Toast’s name — and Toast & Truffle […]

Chef John Kinsella, RIP

I’ve lost two of my most significant Chef-mentors in the last 7 months. Chef Jean-Robert de Cavel in December 2022, and Chef John Kinsella, CMC earlier this week. Chef Kinsella was the force that shaped me from a newbie into a culinarian. His stern-but-mean-but-compassionate-and-angry leadership style toughened us up. Chef […]

Farewell to Buster the wiener dog — RIP 2014-12-22

It was a long time coming, but Buster the wiener dog finally met his end on December 22, 2014. He was a lucky little fellow… He came into Wendy’s hospital more than 8 years ago, already a mature dog, because he’d hurt his back and was paralyzed from the neck […]

Bean, RIP – Sunday, February 6, 2011

On Sunday, February 6, 2011, right around 10:33pm, our dear sweet old Bean dog took her last breath in this world. Bean had battled spleen cancer in August 2010 and beat it (with spleen removal and chemotherapy). However, not long after that, Wendy found a mass on Bean’s liver which […]

Wendy took Akhenaten to the specialist yesterday (along with Bean, who is going there for weekly chemotherapy). As briefly mentioned in this post, […]

Update on Akhenaten

Wendy brought home Akhenaten’s blood-work from the lab today. The summary: It’s bad. Really bad. His BUN, PO4, ALT (SGPT), Creatinine, Cholesterol, Protein (total), Globulin, and NEU% are all really high (the BUN and PO4 are high enough that the lab re-ran them to make sure there wasn’t a mistake). Happy Mouth – April 2010

This was originally Jay’s month to pick. Because Jay’s mom was having a surgical procedure (which went well, by the way!), Wendy offered to switch months with Jay. So, this month became Wendy’s month to select. She chose to host a brunch at The Comet in Northside. Ted, Tracy, Ron, […]

Happy Mouth – March 2010

On Saturday, March 13, 2010, the Happy Mouth Supper Club met at The Rookwood for dinner. It was Tracy’s month to select, and also her birthday. The group met at the downstairs bar for “craft cocktails” before dinner. What “Craft Cocktails” in Cincinnati means to me, a short essay by […]

Moronicle, by Tucker Latham

Friend of mine in Texas told me about his morning: “There was frost on my windshield and I figured, "well, it’s not 20 below, so if I use hot water it won’t freeze."  Went to the Ozarka water dispenser, got about a cup or two of hot water, went to […]

HAPPY MOUTH – February, 2010

For February, 2010, Dave & Robin selected Chi-nattis Pizza, and the food was pretty darned good!
